How it works

From a ride to something you can act on.

There is no magic here, and we're not going to pretend there is. What follows is the honest shape of what happens between clipping in and getting a notification that your chain needs attention.

  1. It listens to your bike

    Clym speaks the standard Bluetooth cycling profiles, so the sensors you already own work: heart rate straps, speed and cadence sensors, power meters. Pair once and they reconnect on their own the next time you ride.

  2. It writes everything down, immediately

    Each second of the ride is committed to durable storage the moment it happens, rather than held in memory and saved at the end. If the phone dies, overheats, or the app is killed mid-climb, the ride is still there when you come back.

  3. It works out what actually happened

    Raw sensor data is noisy. Barometric altitude drifts, GPS wanders under trees, and a phone in a jersey pocket reads differently from one on the bars. Clym reconciles those sources into figures that hold up — elevation that doesn't invent thousands of phantom metres, distance that agrees with the road.

  4. It looks up the conditions you rode in

    After the ride, Clym checks the weather over your route and time window. A wet ride and a dry ride are not the same ride, and this is the step that lets the rest of the system know the difference.

  5. It credits the wear to your components

    The ride is applied to the specific parts on the specific bike you rode, weighted by conditions, terrain and how the bike was loaded. Nothing to log, nothing to remember.

  6. It tells you before it gets expensive

    When something crosses a threshold that matters, you hear about it once — with the reason and the consequence in plain language. Not a dashboard you have to remember to check.

Principles

The rules we hold ourselves to.

These are the decisions that shape everything else, and the ones we'd want to be judged on.

Unknown is never treated as fine

If a weather lookup fails, Clym records that it failed. It does not quietly assume the ride was dry. A system that guesses in its own favour stops being worth trusting.

The ride survives the phone

Recording is designed around the assumption that something will go wrong — battery, heat, a crash, an OS decision. Durability comes first and everything else is built on top of it.

Numbers you can question

Every figure can be traced back to what produced it. Where a measurement is estimated rather than measured, the app says so rather than rounding the doubt away.

Your data is yours

Rides stay on your phone unless you choose to sync them. Sharing with a shop is explicit, scoped, and revocable at any time.
